The Student Finance Board (SFB) voted to fully fund the upcoming Finals Fest, sponsored by the Student Government Association (SGA), at its latest meeting.

Finals Fest, scheduled for May 7, will be held outside near Brower Student Center, the New Library and the T/W beach. In case of rain, it will most likely be held in the Student Recreation Center. SGA requested a total of $12,784.24.

This year's theme is a luau, which will include a mocktail bar, pottery, water balloon fights, tie-dying, massages and Rita's Water Ice. These events are scheduled to reduce stress during the finals period, according to the presentation.

One aspect of the event that caused worry was that Sodexho is charging SGA $16.55 a person for the food, which includes hamburgers, pulled pork sandwiches, Hawaiian chicken and watermelon. SGA is negotiating with Sodexho to lower the price, though SGA may be forced to remove an item from the menu.

"If we have the money, I'd rather them not have to take out food," Blair Gumnic, SGA assistant representative, said. "I know that Sodexho is usually willing to negotiate, from past experience."

Sean Marotta, representative at-Large, suggested giving SGA less funding for the food expenses.

Steve Oliveira, financial director, disagreed and said, "There's no point in saving money anymore, since we're at the end of the year."

SFB voted to fully fund the event 11-1, with two abstentions.
